Visiting & Lodging
Fairfield is primarily a business and regional-travel destination rather than a traditional tourist town. Its Route 46 hotel corridor, Interstate 80 access, Essex County Airport, restaurants and proximity to Willowbrook, Montclair, Newark and New York City make it a practical base for work trips, events and northern New Jersey travel.
Visiting Fairfield
Fairfield's visitor economy is closely tied to its commercial and employment base. Hotels cluster along U.S. Route 46, where travelers have quick access to Interstate 80, local offices, industrial parks, restaurants, Essex County Airport and neighboring communities.

Business, Meetings & Regional Travel
Business travel is one of Fairfield's strongest lodging use cases. The township contains large office, warehouse, manufacturing and distribution districts, while Route 46 hotels place travelers close to many local employers.
Fairfield's office parks and industrial districts generate weekday demand for overnight stays, client meetings, training and project work.
Several Route 46 hotels provide meeting or event facilities, while nearby wedding and banquet venues also create lodging demand.
Fairfield's restaurants, pizzerias, delis, bakeries and hotel dining options make food convenient for business travelers.
Fairfield can serve as a base for trips to Wayne, Montclair, Parsippany, Newark, the Meadowlands and other northern New Jersey destinations.
Essex County Airport
Essex County Airport (CDW) is located entirely within Fairfield and is owned and operated by the Essex County Improvement Authority. The airport is a general-aviation facility of roughly 278 acres and is designated as a regional reliever airport.
Getting Around Fairfield
Fairfield is primarily automobile-oriented. Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 46 provide the main regional routes, with Route 23, I-280 and I-287 accessible nearby.
Provides direct east-west access toward Paterson, Bergen County, Morris County and connections toward New York City.
Fairfield's main hotel, dining and commercial corridor also connects directly with neighboring Wayne and other North Jersey communities.
Bus service provides regional connections, but Fairfield does not have its own passenger-rail station. Travelers should verify current routes and schedules before relying on transit.
Essex County Airport is local; Newark Liberty International Airport is the major commercial-airline gateway for the region.
Nearby Destinations & Day Trips
Fairfield's location makes it convenient for travelers whose trip extends beyond the township itself.
Shopping, restaurants and services in neighboring Wayne are only a short drive from Fairfield's Route 46 hotels.
Dining, arts, shopping and community destinations in Montclair, Verona, the Caldwells and West Orange are within regional driving distance.
Downtown Newark, Prudential Center, NJPAC, universities and Newark Penn Station expand entertainment and transportation options.
Fairfield is about 20 miles west of New York City by the Essex County Airport's regional reference point, though actual travel times vary significantly with traffic.
